Toxicogenomics Services

For large and small companies who do not have sufficient internal resources to carry out toxicogenomic studies, Iconix can provide a range of services to fill that gap.

The simplest entry point to toxicogenomics is a CRO-type service in which Iconix' expert toxicologists work with clients and client data in a contract-based research mode. Iconix can provide a complete turn-key package of services that includes study design, contracting and management of the in-life portion of the study, generation of Affymetrix Array data and expert evaluation of compound activity and toxicity using the context of DrugMatrix and DrugSignature biomarkers. Customers can also contract with Iconix to enter the process at any point, from providing Iconix with the compounds to be studied, through provision of electronic gene expression data files for analysis against the DrugMatrix reference dataset.

The end point for any study with Iconix is the Data Analysis Report. In this report, gene expression data from customers' in vivo studies or in vitro primary rat hepatocyte studies are compared against the DrugMatrix Reference Data set and the customer is provided with a report containing the molecular toxicology profile of the submitted compound(s).

The reports fall into two major categories based on the depth and breadth of analysis. The Mechanistic Report (described in more detail here), provides a deep and thorough analysis, requiring multiple weeks of hands-on time at Iconix for literature analysis, generation of hypotheses and iterations with the client around mechanisms of action and mechanisms of toxicity. The Summary and Compound Screening Report (described in more detail here) provides a more rapid and succinct analysis of compound properties and liabilities, and can be turned around more quickly. This report is more often used for screening and rank ordering of a series of compounds for relative liabilities.
